In the heart of Liège once stood one of Europe’s largest cathedrals. Its fate is among the most striking in our history: in 1793, its demolition was debated and then unanimously voted by the newly elected representatives of the people of Liège, who saw in it the symbol of the prince-bishop’s former power. Work began in 1794, and in its place today lie an esplanade and a concrete slab.

From old engravings, I recreate it as it may still have stood in 1794, and artificial intelligence brings it back to life on video. My goal is not an exact reconstruction: it is an artistic viewpoint, not an academic one — re-invoking the memory of the place, sharing an emotion more than an archive.

Liège holds an immense heritage, and nothing brings it to life and passes it on like artificial intelligence and social networks. This is another side of these technologies I want to show: the past can regain a face through today’s tools.
